About us Festival Communications Assistant Job title: Festival Communications Assistant Duration: Temporary: 6-9 September 2015 plus 1 training day on 5 September Hours: 08.00-20.00 (max. 8 hours a day) Location: Swansea during the British Science Festival Rate: £7.85 per hour The British Science Festival is recruiting Festival Communications Assistants to work during the British Science Festival 2016, from 6 – 9 September The Festival Communications Assistants are offered the opportunity to work in a busy press office as well as contribute to the reporting of the Festival from the BSA team. In the press office, science journalists from the UK and abroad, attend press conferences, interview speakers and file copy each day, giving the Festival Communications Assistants a fantastic opportunity to meet journalists and well-renowned speakers from around the world. The Assistants will also put their writing and social media skills to the test by acting as Festival reporters, covering the events and promoting the Festival to a large audience. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to build their media portfolio and to get some experience working with the media on a large, national event. British Science Festival Communications Assistant Main duties Liaising with members of the press and speakers Researching and collating press coverage received during the Festival Attending to the daily operational needs of the journalists and Press Centre Writing news stories and blog posts for the Festival and British Science Association website Working alongside the BSA Communications team to promote and report on events on social media. Person specification Essential: Good interpersonal skills Excellent level of spoken and written English An ability to stay calm and show initiative Good IT skills Desirable: Some experience of working with the media Experience of writing for websites.
